UPDATE: Man Arrested for Stealing Vases and Markers from Beloit Cemetery

Subject Kristopher W Kaehler was arrested by Roscoe Illinois Police. He will be taken to the Winnebago County Jail awaiting further proceedings regarding the criminal allegations.

In late December of 2012, the Beloit Police Department initiated an investigation into the theft of cemetery grave vases and military markers. These items were stolen from the East Lawn Cemetery. As a result of this investigation, the Beloit Police Department has secured an arrest warrant for the suspect in these thefts. The individual wanted in this incident is:

KRISTOPHER W KAEHLER
W/M 08/18/1985
Blonde hair/Blue eyes
5’10” – 200#
Roscoe, IL resident

The felony warrant charges Kaehler with Criminal Damage & Theft over $10,000 to a Cemetery. As of mid-January, the Beloit Police Department has recovered 181 vases and 112 military grave markers from area scrap yards.

Information from Beloit Police:

An investigation began today when the police department was notified of vases missing from grave markers at East Lawn Cemetery.

The thefts are thought to have occurred within the last 30 days and involve bronze vases being taken from over 100 graves. It is probable that these remembrances were stolen for their scrap value. The vases are approximately 14 inches high and 4 inches wide, designed to hold flowers at the grave.

They are valued at $350 each. Any information on this crime can be called in to Crime Stoppers at 36-CRIME or by contact the police department directly via dispatch at 608-757-2244.
