An investigation began today when the police department was notified of vases missing from grave markers at East Lawn Cemetery.

The thefts are thought to have occurred within the last 30 days and involve bronze vases being taken from over 100 graves. It is probable that these remembrances were stolen for their scrap value. The vases are approximately 14 inches high and 4 inches wide, designed to hold flowers at the grave.

Something that small and worth $350 and put in a public unguarded area. It's almost a guarantee someone will take it.

Would an ethical scrap yard knowingly purchase copper grave yard vases? Or rolls of new copper tubing stolen from job sites? Just like at a Pawn Shop where the person bringing in items has to have an ID and have his photo taken, I'd think a scrap yard would be an easy place to catch these guys.

Seriously, how many times does this sort of thing have to happen before they put out bronze COLORED vases instead of ACTUAL bronze vases!!?!?! Seems like I read this same story several times a year!
