Incident Report from the Madison Police Department:
Incident Type: Residential Burglary
Incident Date: 12/13/2012 - 7:52 PM
Address: 400 block W. Doty St.
Arrested: Christopher A. Mason, age 31, Madison
Mr. Mason was arrested for Burglary, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and on a Probation Hold.
Victim: Male, age 22, Madison
Victim is a UW-Madison student.
Details: A UW-Madison student was awakened while sleeping on his living room couch last evening. Two strangers were inside his off-campus, W. Doty St. home. He asked them what they were doing, and one said they were looking for "Chris." The 22-year old told them no one named “Chris" lives here. He told them to leave. As they did, the victim's roommate realized his laptop computer had just been stolen. Police were called, and the initial victim – the student who had been dozing on the couch - waved a responding officer down, saying one of the suspects was standing alongside a nearby building.
The officer contacted Mr. Christopher A. Mason, age 31, Madison, and Mason began to explain how he and a friend had come downtown to watch the "Badger men's division 1 basketball game." He elaborated that a friend named "Chad" had invited them to view it on his TV and that they thought "Chad" lived in the victim's home.
The suspect said they also intended to get drunk and have physical relationships with unknown women. He was in disbelief when the officer told him the Badger men actually played the night prior, and that there was no game tonight. Found near the suspect was the 22-year old victim's wallet (at that moment, he was not yet aware it had even been stolen).
A backpack, the suspect had been wearing, was also recovered. Inside, officers discovered a loaded handgun. The second suspect remains at large, and the stolen laptop has not been found.
