Press Release from the Dane Co. Sheriff's Office:

Madison, WI. January 31, 2013 – The Dane County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind residents in the town of Westport of an ongoing issue of vehicle and garage break-ins in the area.

In September of last year, the Sheriff’s Office released information regarding a series of break-ins along Westport Road and Blue Bill Park Drive. The thefts have continued and this morning deputies have taken at least two more reports from the Westport Road and Lighthouse Bay neighborhoods. The thieves are continuing to look for easy access to valuables and will move from property to property looking for unlocked doors.

The Sheriff’s Office urges citizens not to become complacent and to lock vehicles and garage doors at all times. It’s also recommended to keep valuables out of sight, as in some cases the thieves have forced their way into vehicles and garages to get at visible valuables and cash. The Sheriff’s Office also asks residents in the area to raise their awareness of activity in this neighborhood and report anything that appears suspicious immediately.
