On Tuesday, October 23, 2012, Dane County Sheriff’s Office Detectives along with agents from the United States Marshall Service received information indicating Helgestad may be located on the east side of Madison. After conducting extensive follow up, Helgestad was located in the parking lot of an east side Madison business. Helgestad was taken into custody without incident and returned to the Dane County Jail, where he is facing an additional charge of Escape.

Madison, WI. October 13, 2012 – An inmate from the Dane County Jail has been declared AWOL. Jason J. Helgestad, age 21 of McFarland, was residing at an alternative facility as part of the Pathfinders program. A Dane County Deputy Sheriff responded to this facility after he was unable to contact Helgestad. The deputy discovered Helgestad had cut off his GPS monitoring device after fleeing the facility.
Helgestad is currently serving 180-day sentence for Retail Theft and Bail Jumping. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 911.
