Details: A head-on crash, on a snow covered and slippery West Beltline, sends three women to the hospital as a drunken driver smashes into their vehicle while operating in the wrong lanes of traffic.

The collision occurred in heavy snowfall, around 11:35 last night, as the suspect drove eastbound in the westbound lanes between Verona Rd. and Seminole Highway. Following his arrest the intoxicated motorist, whose preliminary breath test measured a .15, told an officer: “ I could have killed someone ... I don’t know what I was thinking.”

The three women, who had been in the car he struck, were taken to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries. One suffered a fractured breastbone.

Dane County Sheriff’s deputies, Town of Madison paramedics, and Madison Fire paramedics assisted at the scene.

Westbound traffic was diverted onto Todd Dr. for a period of time while the signficantly damaged vehicles were cleared from the snow-covered roadway.
