Posted Wednesday, November 7, 2012 --- 4:40 p.m.

From the Madison Police Department:

Incident Type:
Stolen Auto

Incident Date:
11/07/2012 - 7:19 AM

Address:
7300 block Sawmill Rd.

Arrested:
Jamal S. Jackson, age 21, Madison
Mr. Jackson was arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Consent and on a Parole Hold.

Details:
A Madison Police sergeant spotted a Jeep, stolen this morning from a Sawmill Rd. home, driving on Gammon Rd. near Memorial High School shortly after 11:00 a.m.

The sergeant decided, because of the number of students on foot in the area, not to attempt a pursuit, but he did begin to follow the Jeep.

The driver pulled into the West Towne Mall parking lot and bailed out.

Alert citizens pointed officers in the direction into which the suspect fled and he was arrested inside the mall.

The suspect has a long history with the MPD including multiple arrests for thefts and burglaries. Some of these crimes are documented in prior Incident Reports.

The MPD is appreciative of the help provided by concerned citizens who were instrumental in getting the suspect off the streets once again.
