We tend to focus on the successes at the Olympics. But Team USA's heartbreaking loss to Canada in women's hockey shines a spotlight on just how difficult it is for athletes who don't accomplish their Olympic dreams.
Olympic speed skater Casey Fitzrandolph has been on both the winning and losing end of sports. He brought home a gold medal in 2002 from Salt Lake City. Four years earlier, he struggled in Nagano.
"While it's perhaps euphoric to have a good day on the right day, it's equally devastating to have a bad day when it matters most," he said. "And you're looking at a minimum of four years before you even have a chance at redemption."
The men's hockey players do have a shot at redemption for Team USA against Canada Friday.
