MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker refuses to say whether he will support proposals in the Legislature to ban assault rifles and the sale of high damage ammunition following the deadly Connecticut school shooting.

Walker said in an interview Wednesday with The Associated Press that he does want to convene a meeting of mental health experts early in the year to discuss what can be done to ensure people are getting adequate treatment.

And he says he may propose using GPS monitoring to track people who are under restraining orders.

There has been a nationwide call primarily among Democrats for tighter gun control following the shooting of 20 elementary school children and six adults at the school last week.

Walker says legislation shouldn't be forced to solve a complicated issue.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker says there are no perfect solutions to preventing a repeat of last week's mass shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.

During an interview with Charlie Sykes on WTMJ radio Tuesday, Walker says it will take several weeks to get a true answer on what led to the killings at Sandy Hook Elementary, where a 20-year-old gunman killed 20 children and six adults before taking his own life.

Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry supports allowing teachers and administrators to carry concealed handguns. But, Walker says any politician that provides a simple answer at this point is jumping to conclusions.

The governor says early intervention for those with mental health issues and access to community-based care are matters that need to be addressed.
