Information from the Grant County Sheriff's Department:
This is an update regarding the reported Hit & Run injury, which occurred on December 5, 2012, injuring Jacob Colson, age 19, of Lancaster. Originally this was reported to the Grant County Sheriff’s Department by Cheryl Walton, age 47 of rural Lancaster, who stated she was driving into town to get some coffee when she located Mr. Colson lying in the road with his injuries.
The Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate this matter, but has determined that Cheryl Walton’s claim was in fact false. The investigation has revealed that multiple people were at a party in rural Lancaster. Several people left the party, including Mr. Colson, and were traveling on University Farm Road, when the vehicle Mr. Colson was in stopped to meet with another vehicle so Mr. Colson could get a ride back to Lancaster. Mr. Colson jumped out of the car and went to get into the other car when the driver of that car, Daniel Udelhoven, age 20 of rural Potosi, backed up and ran over Mr. Colson.
The other occupants in the vehicles, Nicole White, age 24 of Lancaster and a 17-year-old girl also from Lancaster, left the scene and went their residence and woke Cheryl Walton. The investigation has revealed that Cheryl instructed them, along with Daniel Udelhoven to hide, and she would take care of it. At which time she went to the scene and told the rest to leave, while she called 911, making the report that she was driving into town to get coffee and found Mr. Colson lying in the road.
Mr. Colson was severely injured as a result of this incident and has had multiple surgeries to repair the damage by being run over by Mr. Udelhoven.
The matter remains under investigation and charges will be referred later next week.
