Green Bay Police Plan to Crack Down on Truancy

Posted Monday, January 21, 2013 --- 8:15 a.m.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Green Bay police plan to crack down on student truancy and curfew violations in hopes of reducing property crime.

A Green Bay Press-Gazette report says officers will increase patrols in areas often targeted by burglars, as well as neighborhoods where known young criminals live.

Police say young people who steal from homes and vehicles often do so at times when they should be in school or at home. Police Capt. Bill Bongle says enforcing truancy and curfew rules will help reduce those types of crimes.

He also says parents need to do a better job of making sure kids are at home when they're supposed to be home.

A citation for violating curfew costs $83. Adults can also be cited for contributing to a student's truancy or curfew violation.
