Information from the Green County Sheriff:
A Monticello man was arrested after attacking a police officer on Friday night.
At 11:33 p.m. on Friday, Green County Deputies and New Glarus Police assisted the Monticello Police Department with an uncooperative subject in the 100 block of N. Main St., in the Village of Monticello.
Allen John Gierhart, age 21 of Monticello, was arrested after a Monticello Officer attempted to detain him for having open intoxicants in public. Gierhart resisted, threw a glass through the window of the Monticello squad and attempted to disarm the Monticello Officer. Upon arrival of the assisting units, Gierhart kicked a deputy in the head and continued to resist. Gierhart was eventually transported to the Green County Jail where he was held on charges of battery to a law enforcement officer, attempt to disarm a law enforcement officer, two counts of disorderly conduct, two counts of resisting arrest and criminal damage to property.
