Incident Report from the Madison Police Department:
Incident Type: Weapons Violation
Incident Date: 01/20/2013 - 2:19 PM
Address: West Towne Mall (Food Court)
Suspect(s): Male, age 19, Madison
Details: The MPD is investigating the strong possibility that a gun was fired in the West Towne Mall Food Court Saturday afternoon. Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang, and looked to see a handgun beneath a table where several men were seated. It appeared the firearm discharged after falling to the floor. Police were not called Saturday, and the MPD learned about the weapons violation on Sunday.
Some witnesses are employees of a Food Court restaurant. They said they were initially too afraid to call police. Officers were dispatched when possible suspects returned to the Food Court Sunday. Contacts were made, but there was not sufficient probable cause, at the time, to make an arrest. There were no reports of injuries, or property damage, and if a bullet was fired, it is not clear where it went.
