The Henry Vilas Zoo has surpassed a fundraising goal to bring a male lion to the zoo.
The goal was to raise $5,000 to bring an African lion to the Madison zoo from the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle.
Around 4:00 p.m., the zoo reported that $8,150 had been raised.
The following message was posted on the zoo's Facebook page:
"With 6 hours left to give to help "Grow Your Zoo" and $8,150 raised so far, please consider making a donation to help us reach even higher to $10,000 that will be used to bring our new young lion home AND to bring even more new animals home to your Henry Vilas Zoo in 2014!"

On Tuesday, December 3rd, the Friends of the Henry Vilas Zoo will launch a one-day fundraiser to help bring a male lion to the zoo.
The initiative is to raise $5,000 to bring an African lion to the Henry Vilas Zoo from the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle.

The male lion would be paired with the Henry Vilas Zoo's young lioness Shakura.
The fundraiser is part of Giving Tuesday, an international day dedicated to giving that encourages community stewardship and involvement in charitable organizations.
