Local construction crews are working overtime after last month's blizzard. It's due to an increase in ice dams formed on residential roofs. A-Team Construction, a company based in Madison says, they've cleared ten homes since Saturday.
Workers say, ice dams form when snow builds up, and icicles hang from the gutters. This causes running water to be blocked on the roof. When temperatures increase in the top floors of a home the snow can melt creating for potential water damage inside.
They say the best way to prevent ice dams is to purchase a roof rake. It's so homeowners can remove the snow early, and by themselves. It also prevents people from calling in professionals, that can cost a high price.
