WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) -- Freezing rain in north central Wisconsin has closed schools, detoured highway traffic and canceled Gov. Scott Walker's trip to Wausau.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation temporarily closed Highway 47 in both directions Tuesday morning between Neopit and the Langlade County line because of ice.

Antigo, Adams-Friendship, Crandon and Rhinelander schools are among those closed Tuesday because of the dangerous travel conditions.

The governor canceled a trip to Wausau Tuesday, one of several stops around the state to announce the new CEO of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.

Snow is expected to develop later Tuesday and continue to fall through Wednesday. Forecasters say up to 6 inches of snow is expected with the heaviest amounts south and east of Marathon County.
