Janesville firefighters responded to a house fire Thursday night that caused about $175,000 in damage.
It happened around 11 p.m. last night on the 1600-block of West Avalon Street. Officials say a man Jeff Johnson from Stoughton was driving by and noticed the exterior of the house on fire. He dialed 911 and fire crews responded.
The first Janesville unit on scene reported a fully involved house on fire, with lots of flame and smoke. Fire crews had to cut a hole in the roof to ventilate the structure. The fire started on the outside of the house, and spread to the structure. Heavy damage was sustained.
Residents were home at the time and were able to get out without injuries. Damage is estimated at $175,000.
RCSD, Alliant Energy, and Janesville Water Utility all provided assistance. Town of Beloit Fire Department Tender 25 also assissted at the scene. Red Cross was called and will be assisting the family.
