For 7-or-8 years Cal Calkins has lived next door to 44-year-old Dennis Jenks. He says Jenks was quite and he worked nights so their interaction was limited.

When they did speak Calkins says Jenks seemed pleasant. He says he was surprised by the news that his neighbor sexually assaulted a 14-year-old child. He doesn't want people to judge Jenks before his day in court.

" What I think people that are going to look at this story forget is we have a criminal justice system where you're innocent until proven guilty. So just because it's on the news doesn't mean any body's guilty. Lets just see how it all pans out. "

Jeff Veloff, Mt. Horeb's Police Chief didn't want to speak with us on camera. But he agreed to allow us to record the audio from our conversation. He says Jenks has never faced any disciplinary action in the 13-years he's been with their department. In 2009 Veloff says Jenks beat out three other candidates for a promotion.

" He was selected based on my presumption of his ability to do the job," says Chief Veloff. " He's very good public relations wise with people when dealing with them on the street. he's very calming with people. "

Right now he doesn't believe that anything illegal involving Jenks took place in the Village of Mt. Horeb or while Jenks was on duty.
