UPDATE: Facebook Video Leads to Arrest of 2 Wis. Teens

UPDATED Tuesday, November 27, 2012--5:40p.m.
MADISON--A Madison street fight caught on tape leads to the arrest of two teenagers. The fight apparently took place last Monday--November 19th--over on Baird Street.

Word got back to the Madison Police Department and they found the online video shortly thereafter.
We're told the video helped them identify the people involved.

A Madison Police Department Crime Prevention Gang Officer says the kids involved appear to be in that 14 to 17 age range, he says some may even be middle schoolers. However, he could not confirm for us whether or not the fight was gang-related. We also don't know what started the brawl in the first place. Two teens--ages 13 and 14--were arrested as a result of this incident.

UPDATED Tuesday, November 27, 2012 --- 1:37 p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Madison police say two young teens have been arrested after video of their street fight was posted to Facebook.

A Capital Times report on Tuesday says the video showed adults standing around watching the boys fight in the street last week. No serious injuries were reported.

Police say the fight lasted about 2 1/2 minutes. The video shows a 14-year-old repeatedly slamming the head of a 13-year-old into the pavement. The younger boy told police he may have blacked out briefly.

Police began to investigate after they learned of a video of the fight that one of the boys had posted on his Facebook page.

The teens were arrested on tentative charges of battery and disorderly conduct.

Details: Madison Police have arrested two teens after a 2 1/2 minute fight, involving many young men, was posted on Facebook. The video shows the fisticuffs taking place in the 1900 block of Baird St. on Monday evening, November 19th. Investigators were made aware of the video on Wednesday, November 21st. It depicts teens fighting, one-on-one, in the middle of the street. One combatant, a 13-year old, had his head slammed onto pavement several times.

He later told police that he may have, momentarily, lost consciousness. The melee, at the time it was happening, was not reported to police; although it appears some adult citizens knew of, or witnessed the violence. There were no reported serious injuries. It is not clear, based on talking with combatants, whether this was gang related; however, several questioned mentioned an ongoing conflict between some involved. The MPD arrested the 14-year old suspect on November 21st. The 13-year old suspect was taken into custody yesterday afternoon.
