Man Arrested For Hit & Run, Spitting At Officers

Incident Type: Intoxicated Driver

Incident Date: 12/30/2012 - 9:35 PM

Address: 800 West Washington Avenue

Suspect Arrested: Mason Jay Marecek, 38-year-old male of Sun Prairie

Charges: Discharge Bodily Fluids At Public Safety Worker, Operating While Intoxicated -3rd Offense, Hit & Run Involving Injury, Resisting/Obstructing An Officer and Inattentive Driving

Victims: 30-year-old male of Madison and 46-year-old male of Madison.

Details: On 12/30/2012, at approximately 9:35 p.m., officers were canvassing the area in and around West Main Street. They'd been called after reports of a drunk driver.

Moments after the initial dispatch, Madison Fire Department responded to West Washington Avenue and South Park Street reference a red Chevy that was just involved in an accident. Witnesses saw a male, later identified as Mason Marecek, stagger and fall as he attempted to flee the accident scene. Officers were able to get a good description of Marecek’s last location, and found him near the 300 block of S. Park Street, with the assistance of an initiated K-9 track.

Marecek was conveyed to a local hospital, and after arriving, began to fight with both police officers and multiple hospital security personnel. He attempted to kick officers several times, and then started to spit at all personnel who attempted to detain him, where blood transmission became a major concern. He refused to be compliant with officers, and had to be immediately restrained. No injuries were sustained in this ordeal, but the hit and run victim reported multiple injuries from the accident.
