UPDATED Sunday, December 30, 2012--4p.m.
MADISON--"We didn't really see anything except for lots of cop cars out there," said David Coleman, who was working early this morning in the area where the crash happened. "All of University was roped off at that time," he said.

Coleman estimated that close to 10 squad cars surrounded the scene after a driver hit a pedestrian--then took off.
"There was a young man as well as some friends that attempted to cross the street there and as he was traveling northbound going across the intersection, there he was struck by a vehicle that was traveling southbound," said Lt. Stephanie Bradley Wilson, of the Madison Police Department.

Police are not yet releasing the name of the 20-year-old victim.
"He had several injuries to his body," said Lt. Bradley Wilson. "At this point that does not appear to be life-threatening, but we are concerned about his welfare," she said.

He remains in the hospital, while police continue searching for the driver. "We have a limited description of the vehicle," said Lt. Bradley Wilson. "But it is a car. We believe it may be gold or beige in color and a four door. And with the lighting in the downtown area it could be another color, but those were some of the colors that came from interviews of witnesses," she said.

Again, police are trying to locate the driver of the car.
If you have any information about the crash, they're asking you to contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
