UPDATE: 3 Arrested in Incident that Put Beloit College in Lockdown; Handgun Found

Press Release from the Beloit Police Department:

In regards to the armed subject call in the 900 block of Park Av. that occurred on 02/21/13.

Second shift officers returned to the address in the evening hours of 02/21/13 and conducted a search of the parking garage of the apartment building. Located in the garage was a 380 caliber semi-automatic handgun. The gun’s recovery location, led investigators to believe that this is the handgun used by the suspect, Jose R. Rodriguez.

The drugs recovered in the earlier search of the apartment were found to be 6.5 grams of powder cocaine. Investigators were able to determine that the cocaine belonged to Jose also.

As a result, below are the up to date charges for Jose R. Rodriguez:
Disorderly Conduct while Armed
Felon in Possession of a Firearm
Possession of Cocaine (2nd offense)
Prohibited Acts B (drug house)
Resisting an Officer

Jose Rodriguez is being held in the Rock County Jail and will make his initial court appearance on Monday, 02/25/13.

UPDATED Thursday, February 21, 2013 --- 5:20 p.m.

Press Release from the Beloit Police Department:

On February 21, 2013, at about 12:25 p.m., Beloit Police officers responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 1800 block of Park Av. While in route, it was learned that the suspect had threatened the caller with a handgun and fled the scene in his vehicle. Responding officers observed the suspect vehicle as it pulled into a secure parking garage of an apartment building in the 900 block of Park Av. Officers were advised that the suspect lived in a third floor apartment of the building. Officers then secured the building and began negotiations to take the suspect into custody.

The apartment building in question is in close proximity to the Beloit College and their security was notified. As a safety measure, Beloit College placed their campus into a lock down during the entire incident. The lock down was terminated once the suspect was in custody.

At about 1:50 p.m., voice contact was made with the suspect. Shortly after 3:00 p.m., the suspect and a female acquaintance voluntarily exited the apartment and were taken into custody without incident. During the initial search of the apartment another female was found hiding and she also was taken into custody.

A more comprehensive search of the apartment did not reveal a handgun. However, suspected drugs and paraphernalia were located. The suspect denies having or threatening anyone with a
gun.

Those arrested and their respective charges are:

JOSE R. RODRIQUEZ, H/M, 08/30/1961, of BELOIT
Disorderly Conduct while Armed
Resisting Arrest

DIAMOND C. HODGES, B/F, 08/18/1992, of BELOIT
Three Arrest Warrants for Traffic offenses

DAWN M. FORD, W/F, 12/18/1968, of BELOIT
Department of Corrections warrant

Additional charges are possible pending the investigation of the possession of the illegal
narcotics.

Throughout this incident no shots were fired and no individuals were injured.

From Beloit College: The Beloit Police Department has given the college the all-clear. You may now return to your regular activities. An explanation of today's events will be distributed to the campus community via email and shared on the Terrarium and Beloit.edu as soon as possible.

A Beloit Police Officer also tells NBC15 the man they were looking for is in custody.

Beloit College continues to be on lock down awaiting updates regarding the situation occurring off campus (on Park Ave at the northeast corner of campus).

Beloit Police are still on the scene and responding. Remain where you are. We will update you when more details become available.

From Beloit College: Beloit Police are responding to a situation within a few blocks of campus involving a suspect that is believed to be armed. Please stay where you are.

Beloit Police tell NBC15 there was a call of a domestic situation where a male subject left with a gun. He was reported to have gone to an apartment building in the 900 block of Park Ave. This is near the Beloit College campus.

    Don't worry. The assault weapons ban and hi cap magazine ban will prevent future crimes such as these.
