MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (AP) -- A rural Shawano man will face trial in the shotgun slayings of a female acquaintance and her brother.

Twenty-nine-year-old Daniel Schmidt is charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide in the deaths of 32-year-odl Kimberly Rose and her 22-year-old brother, Leonard Marsh. They were shot and killed in 2009 at a home they shared in the town of Gillett. Witnesses testified Wednesday Rose had loaned the defendant $1,000 for a motorcycle, then had to pressure him to repay the loan.

The Shawano Leader says Rose's son, Donovan, who was 11 at the time of the murders, testified his mother and the defendant often argued about marijuana.

The Department of Justice is prosecuting the case. Schmidt remains jailed in Oconto County on $2 million cash bond.
