Man Suspected of Running Meth Lab in Shullsburg Home

Press Release from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office:

At approx. 5:30 P.M. yesterday Lafayette County Sheriff’s Deputies, Shullsburg Police and members of the CLEAR (Clandestine Lab Enforcement and Response) Team (the CLEAR Team is comprised of officers from: WI Division of Criminal Investigation, Prairie du Chien Police, Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, and the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office) executed a search warrant at a residence located at 221 W. Water St. in the City of Shullsburg, WI.

The search disclosed the evidence of a suspected red phosphorous methamphetamine lab that had been in operation on multiple occasions at the residence. Additionally, evidence of illicit drug distribution was discovered within the residence.

Robert F. Gundry, age 59, who resides at the address, was taken into custody at the residence. Gundry is now confined in the Lafayette County Jail pending an initial court appearance. He is tentatively charged with the following felonies: Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Possessing Materials for Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Possession of Methamphetamine Manufacturing-Waste, and Maintaining a Drug Dwelling. The matter will be referred to the Lafayette County District Attorney for review and final charging decisions.

A hazardous material cleanup company also responded to deal with the collection of hazardous waste located at the residence. Shullsburg Fire Department and Shullsburg Ambulance Service personnel were dispatched to the location to provide on-scene support in the event of a fire or any medical emergencies.

The investigation of this matter is continuing. Additional suspects have been identified and are being sought for their involvement in this illicit drug manufacturing and distribution investigation.
