UPDATE: Bail set at $1M for suspect in Watertown homicide


UPDATED Wednesday, June 11, 2014 --- 4:36 p.m.

Bail has been set at $1 million for a man charged in the death of Heather Stewart.

Stewart's ex-boyfriend Michael Henderson is now charged with first degree intentional homicide in the case.

Stewart was found dead in a vehicle on May 30th. She died from a gunshot wound.

Henderson is expected back in court later this month.

UPDATED Wednesday, June 11, 2014 --- 11:10 a.m.

Watertown Police say they have arrested a man in connection with the homicide of Heather Stewart.

The 32-year-old Waterloo man was arrested Tuesday and is being held in the Jefferson Co. Jail. Police have not released his name.

Stewart was found dead in a vehicle the morning of May 30th. The cause of death was a gunshot wound.

“This homicide investigation remains very active as our investigators continue to gather information,” Chief Tim Roets is quoted in a release. “I encourage citizens with information to call our department. Specifically, any information concerning activity in the vicinity of the former Pick n Save building between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28th.”

UPDATED Monday, June 2, 2014 --- 11:32 a.m.

Watertown Police have identified the person found dead Friday in a vehicle as missing woman Heather Stewart. They are investigating her death as a homicide.

Authorities performed an autopsy Saturday. The specific cause of death will not be released at this time as the investigation continues.

The Police Chief says this crime was not a random act and the general public is not at risk.

Officers ask citizens with information on Heather Stewart or any suspicious activity near the former Pick n Save building on the evening of May 28th to call them at 261-6660.

UPDATED Saturday, May 31, 2014 --- 7:45 p.m.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office says there is no longer a missing person case for Heather Stewart, but they are not disclosing if she was found safe or her location.

A car was discovered on Friday in a parking lot on Church Street in Watertown.

A friend of Stewart's says the car was Stewart's.She found the car in the morning with a body inside and called police.

Police are not disclosing who was found in the car.

The death investigation continues as they wait on an autopsy.
They say there is no danger to the public.

UPDATED Friday, May 30, 2014 --- 12:58 p.m.

Watertown Police confirm that a death investigation is underway at 607 S. Church St., but they have not identified the victim and have not linked it to the search for a missing woman at this time.

Police were called to a parking lot at that address around 9:03 a.m.. An unresponsive person was found inside of a vehicle. Effects to revive that person were not successful.

Authorities have been searching for Heather Stewart. Again, police have not named the victim in the death investigation described above.

A friend of Stewart's tells NBC15 News that Heather called into work Wednesday night to say she would be a few minutes late. She never showed up.

The friend said the vehicle found in the 607 S. Church St. lot is Heather's car. Again, authorities have not confirmed this.

POSTED: Friday, May 30, 2014 --- 11:45 a.m.

Authorities in Dodge County are investigating into the disappearance of Heather Stewart. Dodge County dispatch says the Watertown Police Department is in charge of the investigation.

NBC 15 has taken calls from people who claim to be family and friends of Heather Stewart. They say they warned authorities last night that she may be with a dangerous person.

So far neither the Dodge County Sheriff's Office nor the Watertown Police Department is releasing any details.

NBC 15 crews on the scene say there is a command center near the Shopko in Watertown.
