UPDATE: Lake Geneva Man Dead After Semi Crash In Walworth County

UPDATED Wednesday, February 27, 2013 --- 10:36 a.m.

Information from Walworth County Sheriff:

On Tuesday, February 26, 2013, approximately 11:21am, Walworth County Deputies responded to a report of a Chevy S-10 pickup truck vs. semi-truck crash with injuries. This occurred on Hwy 11 about 50 feet east of Old 89 Road in the Town of Darien.

Upon arrival, Deputies found two vehicles had come to rest in the westbound lane of Hwy 11. The two vehicles involved were a westbound 2010 Kenworth semi-truck milk hauler and an eastbound Chevy S-10. The Chevy S-10 lost control on the snow-covered road and slid into the westbound lane of Hwy 11. The milk hauler struck the S-10 broadside on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

The driver and sole occupant of the Chevy S-10 was killed upon impact. The Walworth County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene. He is identified as Carlos R Cantu, age 44, of Lake Geneva, WI. He was wearing his seat belt. The driver of the milk hauler is identified as Michael P. Forstrom, age 31, of Brooklyn, WI. He was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.

The Wisconsin State Patrol was notified and dispatched a member of their post-crash truck team to inspect the semi. The Walworth County Crash Investigation Unit was also dispatched to investigate the crash of the two vehicles. Assisting Walworth County Sheriff was Wisconsin State Patrol, Delavan-Darien PD, Darien Fire and Rescue, and the Walworth County Coroner’s Office.

Hwy 11 was closed from Klug Road to the intersection of Hwys 11-14-89 for about 4 hours while the crash was investigated and the vehicles removed from the roadway. At this time no citations or charges are anticipated.

Upon arrival, Deputies found two vehicles had come to rest in the westbound lane of Hwy 11. The two vehicles involved were a westbound 2010 Kenworth semi-truck milk hauler and an eastbound vehicle. The eastbound vehicle lost control on the snow-covered road and slid into the westbound lane of Hwy 11. The milk hauler struck the personal vehicle broadside on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

We are not providing further information on the “eastbound vehicle” at this time until family has been notified of this crash.

The driver and sole occupant of the eastbound vehicle was killed upon impact. The Walworth County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene. He is not being identified at this time pending notification of next of kin. The driver of the milk hauler is identified as Michael P. Forstrom, age 31, of Brooklyn, WI. He was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.
