UPDATE: Teenager Accused in Wis. School Arson

UPDATED: Wednesday, February 29, 2012 --- 5:33p.m.

OCONTO, Wis. (AP) -- A 16-year-old boy is accused in a juvenile petition of starting the fire last week at a church school in Oconto Falls.

WLUK-TV (http://bit.ly/zEnjgY) reports the boy faces allegations of arson, attempted arson and burglary.

The fire caused $2 million damage at St. Anthony School.

Court documents say the teen told authorities he started the fire at the school on Feb. 21. The teen said he "was inside the school screwing around and was responsible for starting the fire inside the school."

Prosecutors want the boy sent to adult court. A hearing is set for March 9.

The boy remains in detention.

Classes for students at St. Anthony resumed Monday at Grace Lutheran Church.

OCONTO FALLS, Wis. (AP) -- Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen says local authorities have taken a person into custody in a fire that caused extensive damage to a church school in Oconto Falls.

Van Hollen says the Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting, but an initial investigation indicates the fire at St. Anthony Parish School was not accidental.

The person's name was not released. No charges have been filed.

The fire sent billowing smoke clouds and flames through the roof Tuesday night. Sixteen-year-old Vince Enneper says he was walking home from the library and spotted the fire. The teen says he pried open a door and grabbed a fire extinguisher, but the flames were too intense.

WLUK-TV reports (http://bit.ly/zs0lki ) classes at St. Anthony have been moved indefinitely to Grace Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls.
