Police Make Arrest After Witness Follows Suspected Drunk Driver

Danny A. Schroeder, age 39, Cross Plains
Mr. Schroeder was arrested for Operating While Under the Influence - 2nd offense, Duty Upon Striking Vehicle, Intoxicants in Motor Vehicle, Casual Possession of Marijuana and Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance.

A concerned citizen, a 38-year old Madison man, called 911 and followed a suspected drunken driver after watching the man drive erratically past him on Highway 30.

The witness said the pick-up truck continued on Aberg Ave. and then struck another vehicle while turning right onto N. Sherman Ave.

The suspect did not stop, and the citizen caller continued to follow him until he pulled is truck over on Huxley St. at Northwestern Ave.

By this time, the witness said his cell phone battery had died and he asked nearby residents to call 911, which they did.

When officers arrived, the suspect was seated on a curb. An open beer was found inside the cab of his truck. There were also empty beer cans, an empty vodka bottle, and an open bottle of wine.

The Cross Plains man was arrested on the tentative charges listed above.
