Police Standoff in Lake Mills Ends Peacefully

Press Release from the Lake Mills Police Dept.:

On 1-29-13 at 7:54 pm the Lake Mills Police Department was called to the 600 Block of W. Madison St. in regard to a possible suicidal suspect. Once officers made phone contact with the subject, statements were made that lead officers to believe he would harm himself if personal contact was made by law enforcement.

A standoff ensued. Jefferson County Sheriff's Department as well as State Patrol, and Lake Mills Police formed a perimeter and shut down streets in the area.

The Jefferson County Hostage and Crisis Negotiators were called out. After several hours of negotiating the subject let officers into his residence and he was taken into custody without incident at 12:03 am on 1-30-13. A loaded shotgun was seized as well as another shotgun and a rifle. The subject was initially taken into custody on an emergency detention. Reports will soon be forwarded to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office for possible criminal charges.

The Lake Mills Police Department would like to thank the Jefferson Co. Sheriff's Dept. and State Patrol for their invaluable help during this crisis. We would also like to thank the Lake Mills Public Workers as well as the Jefferson Co. Emergency Communications personnel who assisted with perimeter control.
