Racine Man Replaces Family's Stolen Presents

Posted: Tuesday, December 25, 2012 -- 11:56 a.m.

RACINE, Wis. (AP) -- A Racine family whose presents were stolen from under their tree is having a merry Christmas after all, thanks to the efforts of a local businessman.

A Journal Times of Racine report says a thief entered Caylie Cunningham's home through an unlocked door while she was out. The stolen presents included gifts for her 7-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son.

Scott Petersen read a story about the theft in The Journal Times. He has kids of his own, and says he couldn't stop thinking about Cunningham's children.

So he sent each child a gift-wrapped present, and he also gave their mother $500 worth of Walmart gift cards. He says he just wanted to make sure the kids had happy Christmas memories.

Cunningham says Petersen's generosity brought tears to her eyes.
