MADISON-- This topic is getting people talking: some of you may have seen internet stories about states petitioning to leave the country--now you can add Wisconsin to that list.
More than 5,000 people have signed the petition--which asks the president to allow the badger state to "withdraw peacefully from the Union".
The petition also says "We believe in our rights that were granted to us in the constitution our ancestors wrote, and we also believe that your administration is infringing on those rights."
The Wisconsin petitioners have until December 11th to gather 25,000 signatures. If they meet that goal, the administration will review the petition, pass it along to policy experts--and then issue an official response.
At last check, citizens in 49 states had filed similar petitions; basically every state but Vermont.
