All over South Central Wisconsin homes are being sold. Jenny Waisbrot is hoping she'll be able to sell her Madison home sooner rather than later.
Waisbrot's family has out grown their three bedroom home. Two of her kids, Parker 5 a boy and Piper 3 a girl, have been forced to share a room and that's caused some tension at home.
Waisbrot says, " We have boy stuff and we have girl stuff all crammed into the same space and we have a boy and girl fighting constantly in that space."
According to real estate expert and President of the South Central Wisconsin MLS Board, Sam Simon, there's a good chance Jenny will finally be able to get that elusive fourth bedroom.
In 2012 homes sales in Dane County went up nearly 27%.
In South Central Wisconsin sales were up 23%. The reason for the spike according to Simon is affordability.
" Combining the little bit of depression on pricing in Dane County and the eight counties we also have the low interest rates...so the affordability factor is extremely high. "
This year Simon says he doesn't know if we'll see numbers like we did in 2012. He says a more modest increase in the area of about 10% is more likely.
Hopefully that doesn't slow Jenny's plans and she can get some peace and quiet in the new year.
The median price of homes sold in our area did fall about 3% last year.
But Simon says that's because condominiums and other lower priced properties were in higher demand.
He believes that as the number of distressed properties, like foreclosures and short sales shrinks, that median home prices will go up.
