Press Release from UW-Madison:

CAMPUS OPEN FOR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS ONLY; NO IN-PERSON FINAL EXAMS THURSDAY

MADISON - In response to blizzard warnings issued by the National Weather Service for Madison and Dane County, UW-Madison will be open only for essential operations Thursday. Scheduled, in-person final exam meetings will not be held.

Here are details on how the university community may be impacted:

Students: Students who have finals scheduled for Thursday are asked to await information from their instructors. Instructors have been directed to offer alternative final exams or make grade evaluations based on work to date. Finals on Friday and Saturday are expected to be held as scheduled.

Instructors: Instructors who have finals scheduled for Thursday are directed to contact their students with alternate plans, based on Wednesday's instructions from the Provost's Office. If instructors have questions or need support, contact your department chair or dean's office. In-person exam meetings cannot be held or re-scheduled to Friday or Saturday.

Employees: Employees designated as essential should report to work, following their departmental policies. Other employees will need to use available leave (vacation, personal holiday or compensatory time), or leave without pay, as appropriate to cover the absence. With supervisor approval (if needed), employees may also work at home or in an alternate location. Employees should check with their supervisor if they have questions. Employees can find the guidelines at http://www.news.wisc.edu/ or http://www.news.wisc.edu/21372.

Campus is expected to reopen for normal business Friday. More information about Friday's status will be provided later on Thursday.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison plans to not cancel class amidst a storm that could accumulate about a foot of snow during finals.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the University says tests should continue as scheduled through Saturday.

In February, 2011, the school canceled class after a blizzard brought about a foot of snow.
