UW-Madison Police K9 Receiving Protective Vest

Posted: Saturday, December 24, 2011 --- 2:30p.m.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department is happy to announce the donation of a bullet resistant/stab resistant vest for K9 Casey. K9 Casey's handler, Sergeant Cherise Caradine, received a call from Wisconsin Vest-a-Dog on Thursday with the good news that K9 Casey would be receiving the vest for her Christmas present. K9 Casey is a 6 year old Dutch Shepherd trained in narcotics detection, evidence recovery, agility and tactical obedience.

The money for the vest, which costs $840.00, was raised by four students at UW-Whitewater. Alycia Krebs, Amanda Klamrowski, Callista Hoffstead and Jessica Halstead are in the Communication Department and raised the funds as a project for a class. They raised a total of $1,717.84 with their efforts and also vested another dog in the Milwaukee area. They were given the opportunity to select two dogs, one being K9 Casey at UW-Madison Police Department.

The Wisconsin Vest-A-Dog is a non-profit organization started by Donna Morgan of Janesville, WI. Donna works tirelessly at her goal of vesting all police K9s in the state. K9 Casey is the third of the UW-Madison Police K9s to receive a vest, the other explosive detection K9s have been previously vested.
