You use your smartphone to text, take selfies, and yes, even stalk people on Facebook. But have you ever considered using it to minimize stress?
With the holidays quickly approaching, no doubt things are going to get pretty stressful for us all. But don't fret, there's an app for that. From helping you find the cheapest gas, to navigating traffic, even an app to help you cook your turkey.
"There's actually you can get a plug-in meat thermometer that plugs into your iPhone and sends the information when the turkey's done” says Karen Hitchcock, Owner of Citrus Marketing.
According to TripAdvisor, more half of those traveling this Thanksgiving will use there phone to help with the trip.
Here's how your smartphone can keep the holiday focused on thankfulness and not on a mental breakdown.
OK, so say you'll be traveling by car. Consider a free app called Waze.
“It basically helps you see where the traffic jams are, routes to avoid them” says Hitchcock.
And everyone needs to fill up right? The Gas Buddy app helps you find cheap gas, the closest gas station, even where you can find diesel gas.
And as we all know keeping kids entertained on the road can be a challenge as well. Hitchcock recommends a geography app for your kid. Then as you travel through different states, give them a quiz on each.
Alright, so what if you're flying this holiday? Try the My TSA app.
"What I love about this is it tells you where there are waiting times through security” says Hitchcock. It works for every airport too.
But, you know, it's not all about the travel. Let's not forget the true meaning of Thanksgiving.
My personal favorite app that I use everyday. It's called Gratitude Journal 365. Type in what you're thankful for and even add pictures. Then go around the table and share your list. But, then put down the phone and enjoy the company of your family and friends.
Oh and one last tip, don't forget to charge your phone!
