Walker Not Planning for Country Going Over Cliff

Posted Thursday, December 5, 2012 --- 12:31 p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Gov. Scott Walker is not planning a doomsday scenario state budget if the country goes over the fiscal cliff.

Walker says there are too many unknowns related to the ongoing negotiations between President Barack Obama and congressional Republicans to adequately prepare for what may happen.

Walker has some time.

While automatic spending cuts and tax increases would take effect in January if no deal is reached, Walker doesn't have to introduce his budget until February.

Bob Lang, director of Wisconsin's nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau, says no deal would result in the loss of hundreds of millions of dollars to the state.

Walker joined with five other governors who traveled to Washington on Tuesday to meet with President Barack Obama and talk about the implications of going over the cliff.
