Although some local ski slopes were open last week, warm weather is closing them until temperatures cool.

Cascade Mountain was open this weekend with about a two-foot man-made base that began melting as a record temperatures exceeded 60 degrees. Skiing and grooming was ceased Monday to prevent agitation of the snow that could cause additional melting.

Staff plan to make more snow Tuesday and reopen Friday.

Tyrol basin has been open on and off in its early ski season since October. Staff say they also have about a two-foot base, and plan to open again Tuesday night.
