Press Release from the Dane Co. Sheriff's Department:
Madison, WI. January 24, 2013 – At 6:59 am, Dane County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Marshall Fire and EMS, and UW Med Flight, responded to a report of a vehicle seen laying on its roof off of HWY 19, just east of Cherry Lane.
When they arrived they found a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer overturned in a field approximately 75 feet off the road. The driver has been identified as a 45-year-old woman from Waterloo, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Crash investigators believe that the woman had been traveling eastbound on HWY 19, veered off the side of the road, then over-corrected and hit an embankment. The vehicle then went airborne and rolled over, eventually coming to rest on its roof in the field.
HWY 19 was closed for approximately 2 ½ hours while the emergency responders worked at the scene. Deputies do believe alcohol was a factor in the crash, however, a final determination will not be made until the Medical Examiner (ME) has made his findings. The ME’s Office will release the name of the woman following the notification to the family.
