Gov. Walker Promises $6.4 Billion for Transportation

Posted Friday, February 15, 2013 --- 12:22 p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Republican Gov. Scott Walker says his executive budget will include billions of dollars for transportation infrastructure.

The governor's office issued a press release Friday pledging the budget will invest $6.4 billion in transportation, including $824 in new money.

The statement offered no details on how Walker would come up with the money. His spokeswoman said only that he would not raise gas taxes or vehicle registration fees.

A bipartisan task force recommended last month the state should raise gas taxes and impose a new mileage-based registration fees, but Republican leaders rejected both ideas.

A disclaimer..I am an independent and voted for neither candidate the last time. I've read several articles in our local papers about the governor's health plan, rather than accepting federal money to expand Medicaid; about the governor's proposal for transportation infrastructure, to mention two. But, the governor offered no details... in either case. I don't understand, why would you say this is what you are going to do but you don't offer details for your plans. If you make the announcements, shouldn't you know what those details are, otherwise, why make the announcement until there are details to be announced as well? I hope that all the governor's proposals and budget issues, etc. are not merely a ploy to garner support for a re-election bid. That would be a great disservice to the people of this state.
