UPDATE: Driver charged with fleeing trooper in fatal crash

UPDATED Wednesday, September 11, 2013 --- 2:54 p.m.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Prosecutors have charged a drunken driving suspect with fleeing a Minnesota state trooper and crashing into another car in Minneapolis, killing one man and critically injuring another.

Thirty-four-year-old Yia Her of St. Paul was charged Wednesday with two felony counts of fleeing a peace officer resulting in injury or death.

According to the charges, Her was driving with a suspended license and had a blood-alcohol level twice Minnesota's legal limit.

The patrol says Her took off when the trooper pulled him over in downtown Minneapolis early Monday. Her then led the trooper on a three-minute chase before colliding with another car.

The other driver, 20-year-old Brody Sotona of Spring Valley, Wis., was killed. The Star Tribune reports his passenger, 24-year-old Connor Macklin of Stillwater, is in critical condition Wednesday.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- An early morning police chase in Minneapolis ended when a fleeing vehicle struck another car, killing the driver and injuring a passenger.

The Minnesota State Patrol says a trooper tried stopping a car for speeding and suspicion of drunken driving about 1 a.m. Monday. The driver fled the scene and the trooper began pursuit.

The patrol says the chase ended when the car broadsided another vehicle, killing the driver, 20-year-old Brody Sotona, of Spring Valley, Wis., and seriously injured a 24-year-old passenger from Stillwater.

The driver of the fleeing vehicle sustained non-life threatening injuries.
