Wisconsin Headlines For Thursday Morning

Posted: Thursday, December 20, 2012 -- 7:40 a.m.

JANESVILLE, Wis. (AP) -- Hundreds of schools in Wisconsin are closed today as the Midwest's first major snowstorm of the season moves across the state. Two people died last night when their car slid into the path of an oncoming semi on a slippery Rock County highway. And 10 inches of snow has already fallen in Osseo.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- A state appeals court is scheduled to release a ruling this morning on whether Wisconsin's domestic partnership registry violates the state constitution's ban on gay marriage. The registry created in 2009 grants same-sex couples a host of legal rights.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Organizers of the Packers Heritage Trail are trying to raise about $500,000 for a new monument in Green Bay. The monument will include two 27-foot-tall standards shaped like a goalpost that light up at night and include statues and glass walls etched with images of Packers glory.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- A Green Bay homeless shelter will host a memorial service tonight in memory of people who've died on the streets. Five homeless people died this year, but officials will also light a sixth candle for people who are unnamed or unidentified.
