Wisconsin DOJ Catches Up On Concealed Carry Permits

Posted Saturday, February 11, 2012 --- 9:30 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — State Justice Department officials say they've gotten the deluge of concealed carry permit applications under control and are meeting turn-around deadlines again.

Wisconsin's concealed carry law requires the department to process applications received before Nov. 30 within 45 days. Any applications received after that date must be processed within 21 days.

The agency fell behind on Dec. 29, but has since come back into compliance. Law Enforcement Services Division Administrator Brian O'Keefe says the agency hired 11 new employees in January and the flow of applications has slowed.

The delay was a much as five days for some applicants.
