Women Try to Use Counterfeit $100 Bill at Rock Shop

Incident Date: 01/30/2013 - 1:59 PM

Address: 901 E. Johnson St. (Burnie's Rock Shop)

Arrested: Tracey D. Franklin, age 43, no permanent address
Ms. Franklin was arrested for Attempted Fraud, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Retail Theft.

Franca M. Wheeler, age 18, Cottage Grove
Ms. Wheeler was arrested for Attempted Theft - Party To A Crime.

Jermaine B. Bradley, Jr., age 19, no permanent address
Mr. Bradley was arrested for Resisting and Bail Jumping.

Details: The MPD responded to Burnie's Rock Shop Wednesday afternoon after two women attempted to buy merchandise with a counterfeit $100 bill.

Both were contacted as they walked away from the store. One, the 18-year old listed above, had the fake bill in her pants. An officer noted it was about 3/4 the size of a real bill. The other suspect had items that had been shoplifted from the rock shop. A man associated with the women ran from police and was arrested following a short foot chase.

Employees at two other businesses: Madison Food Mart, 902 E. Johnson St., and Cork N Bottle, 855 E. Johnson St. also reported having the women in their stores, and that they also attempted to pass a phony $100 bill during attempted transactions.
