GREENDALE, Wis. (AP) -- Residents in the Milwaukee suburb of Greendale are being advised to boil their water before drinking it until further notice.
Village officials issued a statement Sunday saying water utility officials found coliform bacteria during routine testing Wednesday and Friday. The utility says it's working to solve the problem as soon as possible.
Greendale officials say ice, food and beverages prepared with unsafe water must be discarded, and residents should boil or use commercially bottled water for drinking, food preparation, brushing teeth, making ice and washing hands before eating. Tap water should be heated to a rolling boil for at least one minute before use, and ice should be made only from boiled or bottled water.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports tap water does not need to be boiled for showering.
