Fast Feet for Families, the First Annual Rock County Foster Care/United Way of North Rock County 5K run/ 2 mile walk, offers a great opportunity to get out and get your exercise early, before indulging in the other exciting weekend offerings in Janesville on August 20th.
In its first year, this soon to be annual run/walk will divide its proceeds between Rock County Foster Care and the United Way of North Rock County. Ron Ochs, United Way President, said that he is thrilled that United Way has been chosen to share in the proceeds of this event. “What a great example of community members taking pro-active steps to advance the common good. We’re very grateful for the Rock County partnership and are looking forward to the race.”
Cheri Salava, Rock County Foster Care Supervisor said that Foster Care is always looking for recruitment and retention dollars. Currently, families are being sought who can accommodate sibling groups of 2 or more, particularly in the outlying communities. “We’re trying to build up systems that support these foster families, helping us to retain them over time. We’re looking for people who are committed to helping Rock County families become healthier and stronger.”
The race begins in front of the Rock County Health Care Center and follows a beautiful, scenic route on County Highway F with immediate parking available at no cost. Pre-registration is $20 until midnight, August 15th, 2011 and $25 on the day of the race. The 5k package includes the bib number, t-shirt and goody bag. The 2 mile walk package includes a t-shirt and goody bag. A flyer, registration form or sponsorship form can be downloaded at uwnrc.org
United Way campaign contributions are invested in local programs that address the community’s greatest needs: helping youth achieve their potential, meeting people’s basic needs and building their self-sufficiency, enhancing health and wellness, and strengthening families.
