MMSD Food & Nutrition to Offer Two Options for Hot Lunch:
The MMSD Food & Nutrition Department is excited to launch two options for hot lunch which will be piloted at six elementary schools beginning December 1. The goal of the new pilot is to improve customer satisfaction and increase participation in the school lunch program. Kennedy, Elvehjem, Glendale, Franklin, Lincoln and Shorewood elementary schools will offer the two options.
According to Steve Youngbauer, Food & Nutrition Director, "We feel that offering two daily options will give us more flexibility to better meet the diverse needs of our students. I am excited about the opportunities for our program."
The district serves more than 20,000 meals daily. All meals follow US Department of Agriculture requirements and are carefully planned. Food & Nutrition is committed to offering more whole grain and whole wheat options, and more locally grown food options. Local products include apples, cherry tomatoes, green and red peppers, carrots and cucumbers.
