Press release from Madison Schools:
Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year, Leopold Elementary School in the Madison Metropolitan School District will offer a dual language option for incoming kindergarten students.
Participation in the dual language program will be a choice option for parents who can choose between a standard English-only kindergarten program and the English/Spanish curriculum. The goal of the dual language program is for students to become proficient on grade level curriculum in both English and Spanish by the end of fifth grade.
The dual language program is open to all families living in the Leopold Elementary attendance area. If there is greater demand than there are openings, a lottery system will be used to determine which students will be in the dual language classrooms.
Given current enrollment projections, it is anticipated that when fully implemented in six years, the dual language program at Leopold will include 16 of the school’s 44 classrooms.
An informational meeting will be held at Leopold Elementary School, located at 2602 Post Road, at 7:00 PM on Tuesday evening, February 24, in the school’s cafeteria. Parents with incoming kindergartners will have the option of filling out an application for the program at the school’s kindergarten enrollment day on March 2, 1:00 - 6:00 PM.
For more information, please contact Leopold Elementary at 204-4240.
