From the Beloit Fire Department:
[Beloit, WI]— The time is here to “Spring Forward” with our clocks. The second Sunday of March marks the time of year to set our clocks ahead again. The official time change occurs at 2:00 AM this Sunday, March 8th.
The City of Beloit Fire Department also wants to remind citizens that it is also important to check for batteries in their smoke detectors. It is a vital safety device that we should all have in our homes. Too often people don’t have smoke detectors and, if they do have them, batteries have been removed for a variety of reasons. There should be at least 2 detectors in every home. There should be one near bedrooms to wake occupants at night, since people won’t smell smoke while sleeping. There should also be one near the kitchen. Other good places to place smoke detectors include the basement near the furnace and water heater, in each bedroom for the best chance of waking everyone at night, the garage and anywhere else in the home where someone may be heating, burning or cooking. Smoke detectors need regular attention to guarantee proper function by blowing out dust and keeping them free of dust and debris.
Any questions about smoke detectors can be answered by calling your local fire departments or online at: http://www.usfa.dhs.gov/citizens/focus/smoke_alarms.shtm
