From the Rock County Sheriff's Department:
The Rock County Sheriff’s Department will be assigning additional patrol squads on the dates for homecoming nights occurring in the County, which includes this weekend and the following weekend.
In an effort to ensure that all of our young drivers have a safe and enjoyable evening, these additional deputies will be dedicated to patrol roadways and areas that can be hazardous for young and inexperienced drivers. The leading cause of violent deaths for teenagers is motor vehicle crashes. Deputies will be enforcing traffic and alcohol related violations. It is our intent to be proactive in hopes of preventing any unfortunate events and to see that their homecoming night is safe and enjoyable.
I would encourage parents and/or guardians to speak with their teenage children about the importance of using safety belts and adhering to the traffic laws and reinforce safe driving habits.
Finally, our message to all homecoming participants is to enjoy this special night but remember that the use of any alcohol is prohibited until the age of 21. As law enforcement professionals we have witnessed the tragic results of mixing alcohol and speeding among young and inexperienced drivers. Let’s work together as a community to ensure a safe evening.
