It's going to be a busy weekend at area parks with people enjoying the great outdoors for their holiday. But one thing many may not be enjoying- the mosquitoes!
It can be a challenge to find the product that works best to help fight off those pesky mosquitoes. Experts say it's important to pay attention to the fine print. Fontana Sports store manager Adam Remus said, "we have everything from spray on's, to balms, to wrist bands you can put on kids."
Fontana Sports store manager Adam Remus says insect repellents are a hot commodity this summer. He added, "we've been really busy."
And those mosquitoes have been busy- the uninvited guests to your cook-outs and camping trips. But you can be prepared for them, and your best bet is to be protected.
"Deet is definitely the most popular; just throughout the years it's the most effective. For me personally, if the bugs are really bad, deet just seems to work the best," said Remus. The majority of the products at Fontana Sports don't have 100% deet in them, so they're not harmful to your skin. There's other options for kids too, to help keep those bugs at bay. Remus added, "people are really conscious of what they're putting on their skin, so these kind of things like the bug bands; these are really great. They tend to work around the surrounding area."
And you can also skip the repellent altogether, protecting yourself from the moment you get dressed. "Promethean is a synthetic based material that isn't absorbent in the skin so what they do is they put that on clothing, and a shirt like this will typically last 70 washings," said Remus.
